We leave front dew claws on our puppies as we believe they use them regularly, sometimes similarly to our thumbs and at other times for leg stability during exercise. There is a small risk that they can damage them, as they can any toe, though we believe the good outweighs the bad for us when considering this issue.

If your preference is to have dewclaws removed this can be completed at the time of desexing (around 12 months +) though unless you have a valid medical reason we do not recommend it.
